Median Household Income

Although median household income has increased, racial inequities persist.

The median household income in King County for the period 2017-2021 was $106,326, which was higher than that of Washington State overall.  

  • Trends: Median household incomes have been increasing over time for King County households, from $69,047 in 2012 to $110,586 in 2021. Median incomes also increased over this time period for Seattle and Washington State households 

  • Race: Asian-headed ($127,469) and white-headed ($110,701) households had the highest median incomes, which were greater than the King County average. Households headed by Black/African American ($57,027), American Indian/Alaska Native ($55,640), Hispanic/Latino ($74,271), Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander ($76,212) and multiple race ($90,099) people had median household incomes lower than the King County average. Asian-headed households had a median household income over twice as high as Black/African American and American Indian/Alaska Native households.   

  • Age: For households headed by someone age 45-64 years, the medium income was $123,970, higher than the King County average and all other age groups. Households headed by someone age 15-24 years ($52,329) or 65 or older ($65,232) had median incomes which were lower than the King County average, and all other age groups.
